On the 3rd of October 2013, an Associated Airlines Embraer 120 ER aircraft registered 5N-BJY was scheduled for a 0930hrs departure to Akure as a charter flight SCD361 with 7 crew and 13 passengers.
The crew requested for start-up which was granted. At the start of the engines, an automated audio warning of “Engine Control” was triggered. The crew was cleared for take-off on runway 18L. About 3 seconds after power was set, the first officer noticed that the aircraft was moving slowly, followed almost immediately with an automated warning from the onboard computer voice alert, “Take-off Flaps” and “Auto Feather”. These warnings were heard throughout the duration of the flight.
5N-BJY subsequently crashed into the Joint Users Hydrant Installation area of Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos State, Nigeria. Sixteen (16) persons were fatally injured while four persons survived the accident.
