Interim Statement on B737-300, Marks 5N-BUK

On 15th May, 2019 at about 17:43 h, a Boeing 737-300 aircraft with nationality and registration marks 5N-BUK, owned and operated by Air Peace Limited departed Port Harcourt International Airport for Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, as a scheduled flight 7091, operating on Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flight plan.

The flight had 113 persons on board including 6 cockpit and cabin crews. The captain was the Pilot Flying (PF) while the co-pilot was Pilot Monitoring.

At 19:24 h, the aircraft was on final approach to Runway 18R. The crew called the Tower requesting to know the situation around runway 18R. Tower reported that the approach path was free but that there was weather on the take-off path Runway 18R.

The aircraft touched down at 19:34 h amidst rain and reported to the Tower that they were stopping on the runway due low visibility. At 19:40 h, the crew called Tower to inform that they were exiting the runway.

5N-BUK taxied to the apron and the passengers disembarked normally. Post landing inspection of the aircraft revealed substantial damage to the aircraft.

The investigation is at the conclusive stage. The draft final report is ongoing. Afterward, it will be sent to stakeholders for their substantial comments in line with the requirements of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13.
