About NAWS SYMPOSIUM

The Nigerian Aviation Workforce Safety (NAWS) SYMPOSIUM is a proactive child of the need to strengthen the Nigeria Aviation Safety Management System.

NAWS 2021 SYMPOSIUM now establishes the platform for continuous improvement of aviation safety management by bringing together all relevant stakeholders to discuss apparent challenges, evolving strategies and successful solutions that impact positively on aviation safety management, especially occurrences resulting from Wind Shear phenomena.

The Nigeria Aviation Workforce is critically in need of this platform. Therefore, the theme of this maiden edition of NAWS 2021 succinctly reflects the core values of the organizers’ contributions to the Nigeria Aviation Safety Management System.

Organizers

NAWS 2021 SYMPOSIUM is organized through a multilateral arrangement, spearhead by the Accident Investigation Bureau of Nigeria (AIB-N), Federal Ministry of Aviation (FMoA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and facilitated by Cademy Research Network (Cademy).

Rationale for NAWS 2021  SYMPOSIUM

Evidences from past and recent aircraft accidents and incidents in Nigeria have been strongly associated with weather and meteorological conditions, amongst which wind-shear is a major cause.

A cursory evaluation of the needs reveals huge opportunities for improving awareness, knowledge, competencies, and technological capabilities for wind-shear safety systems. There is also the overall need to continually assess preparative action plans to mitigate the impact of climate change on aviation safety. Consequently, effective safety enforcement programs coupled with advanced technological approaches such as the wind-shear alerting and warning systems to extenuate its adverse impacts are to be explored extensively through concerted efforts by all stakeholders.

Goals

The overall goal of NAWS 2021 SYMPOSIUM is to provide the needed national platform for annual collaborative and interactive engagements and a strategic means of lending a voice to the organizers and her allies to ensure aviation workforce safety. Specific strategic goals of NAWS 2021 SYMPOSIUM include:

  1. Appraising Platform: Promoting periodic appraisal of aviation workforce safety activities in Nigeria;
  2. Research & Knowledge Exchange: Encouraging multi-disciplinary research activities that can be coalesced for the greater good of the Nigeria Aviation Safety Management System through data collection, analysis, dissemination and use,
  3. Technology Expo: Widespread active participation of aviation safety technology infrastructure providers that will continually update the knowledge base of all stakeholders on evolving tools and cutting-edge technologies;
  4. Capacity Development: Supporting educational/academic and professional endeavors of all stakeholders in the Nigeria Aviation Industry through the award of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points award such as through abstracts, paper presentations and publications in peer review journals.
